The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis is hiring a Global Design & Data Visualization Specialist to strengthen how its energy and finance research is communicated through visual storytelling. About the Role
This position sits within IEEFA’s global communications team and reports to the Global Communications Project Manager. It is a highly practical design role that combines creative design, data visualization, and cross-regional collaboration.
The main purpose of the role is to ensure that IEEFA’s research outputs are visually compelling, consistent across regions, and easy to understand for non-specialist audiences.
Key Responsibilities
The role is divided roughly into two main areas of work:
1. Global Design & Data Visualization (≈50%)
- Designing templates for reports, fact sheets, presentations, newsletters, and digital products
- Developing and refining visual identity systems across formats (PDF, HTML, PPT, social media, webinars)
- Creating charts, graphs, maps, and data-driven visuals in collaboration with analysts
- Producing infographics and visual explainers to simplify complex research
- Supporting brand consistency while allowing regional adaptation
- Providing guidance and light training on design tools (e.g., Flourish and similar platforms)
- Contributing to internal design standards and documentation
2. Regional Surge Support (≈50%)
- Acting as a design backstop for regional teams across:
- Asia
- Australia
- Europe
- North America
- South Asia
- Supporting teams during high workload periods, staff transitions, or resource gaps
- Temporarily embedding with regional teams as needed to maintain continuity of design output
Required Skills and Qualification
Candidates are expected to have a strong mix of design expertise and communication skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, data visualization, or related field
- 4–7 years of professional design experience
- Strong portfolio demonstrating:
- Reports and publications
- Data visualizations
- Infographics and maps
- Presentations and digital assets
- Proficiency in:
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Microsoft Office (especially templates and presentations)
- Data visualization tools such as Flourish or similar
- Ability to translate complex research into simple, visually compelling outputs
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent English communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across multiple time zones
Preferred Skills
Additional experience that strengthens a candidate’s profile includes:
- Work in climate, energy, or research-focused organizations
- Basic HTML/CSS or web design knowledge
