Deputy Country Director – Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Country Director will work closely with the Country Director to manage operations and advance Cure Blindness Project’s mission in Ethiopia.
The successful candidate will provide leadership across several program areas, including tertiary care, outreach, primary care, monitoring, evaluation and learning, advocacy, quality, and research.
Key responsibilities include supporting the development and implementation of country strategies and annual plans, overseeing day-to-day operations when the Country Director is unavailable, and contributing to decisions concerning programs, resources, and partnerships.
The role will also involve supervising senior staff and promoting a positive organizational culture.
Another important component will be ensuring high-quality program implementation. The Deputy Country Director will monitor program delivery, budgets, and impact, lead needs assessments, coordinate appropriate interventions, and support emergency response activities when required.
Financial Management and Partnerships
The Deputy Country Director will also play an important role in financial and award management. Responsibilities include overseeing the country office program budget, supporting expense and award tracking, monitoring sub-grants, ensuring donor compliance, and helping manage organizational resources.
The position also contributes to fundraising and business development, including proposal development and efforts to maintain, grow, and diversify the organization’s funding portfolio.

Qualifications and Experience

- At least 10 years of leadership and management experience in an international NGO, eye care setting, or related sector.
- A Master’s degree in management, social science, health, or another relevant field.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, and presentation abilities.
- Previous public health learning and development experience is preferred.

The position requires flexibility to work outside standard hours when necessary and the ability to travel domestically and internationally by up to 60% of the time.
