Consultant Opportunity: Documenting Successful Climate Action and Climate Justice Practices|Apply by 10 Sept 2026

Are you an experienced climate justice professional, researcher, consultant or development practitioner with a passion for documenting impactful initiatives? The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is inviting qualified consultants to apply for an exciting opportunity to compile stories and good practice examples showcasing successful climate action around the world.

The consultancy will focus particularly on initiatives led or supported by faith-based organizations and will help identify lessons, achievements and approaches that can strengthen future climate justice advocacy and action.

About the Opportunity

Climate justice advocacy and policy engagement are key priorities under the Lutheran World Federation’s 2025–2031 Strategy. LWF is committed to addressing the climate emergency through advocacy, policy change and sustainable practices within its member churches, country programmes, communities and wider networks.

The organization’s Local to Global Action for Climate Justice Phase 2 project operates across 21 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The project seeks to advance the goals of the Paris Agreement while promoting climate justice, peace, human rights, care for creation and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Particular attention is given to youth, women and vulnerable communities that are disproportionately affected by climate change. The programme also works with churches, faith-based organizations, civil society actors, governments, policymakers, academia and scientific communities.

What Will the Consultant Do?

The successful consultant will identify and document stories and good practice examples of successful climate action, with a particular focus on climate justice initiatives supported by LWF and other faith-based organizations.

The assignment will build on an analysis of more than 100 supported projects. The consultant will examine key achievements, emerging trends and strategic lessons while highlighting the contribution of faith-based organizations to locally grounded, inclusive and transformative climate action.

The work will involve reviewing project documentation, identifying initiatives with significant impact or potential for replication, interviewing representatives of selected projects and developing an engaging synthesis publication.

Key Deliverables

The consultancy will include several major outputs:

  • Inception Report: A detailed methodology and work schedule submitted within two weeks of starting the contract.
  • Draft Report: Findings from the portfolio review, including achievements, emerging trends, cross-cutting findings, success factors, lessons learned and recommendations.
  • At Least 15 Case Studies: Stories highlighting impact, innovation and the experiences of climate justice advocates.
  • Online Interviews: Interviews with representatives of selected projects to capture experiences, challenges, lessons and the added value of faith-based organizations.
  • Final Report: A consolidated report incorporating LWF feedback, conclusions and recommendations.

All deliverables will be prepared in English and submitted electronically to the LWF Program Executive for Climate Justice.
