The Constructive Dialogue Institute (CDI), a non-partisan nonprofit organization, is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join its mission-driven team. This full-time, remote position is open to candidates based in the United States, offering a salary range of $135,000 to $145,000 per year. CDI works with colleges and universities across the country to equip students, faculty, and staff with the skills to communicate effectively across lines of difference, fostering dialogue that can create lasting organizational and societal change.

About the Role
The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing CDI’s data infrastructure, which supports analytics, reporting, and research workflows across the organization. Unlike positions focused primarily on machine learning or product analytics, this role emphasizes practical data engineering, reporting systems, and applied evaluation.
The position offers the opportunity to:
- Rebuild and modernize CDI’s analytics and reporting ecosystem.
- Co-lead evaluation efforts for CDI’s AI-powered dialogue coach.

Key Responsibilities
The Senior Data Scientist will be tasked with:
- Owning data infrastructure: Design and maintain core data models, schemas, and documentation while ensuring high data quality and reproducibility.
- Managing ETL/ELT pipelines: Build and maintain robust, reproducible pipelines to produce analysis-ready datasets.
- Modernizing analytics: Lead the redevelopment of CDI’s analytics and reporting tools to support internal and partner-facing needs.
- Dashboard and reporting creation: Build intuitive dashboards and recurring reports for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Metric governance: Establish trusted metric definitions and documentation, promoting consistent data practices across teams.
- Evaluation of AI tools: Co-lead assessment of the AI dialogue coach, including metrics on learner experience, safety, and reliability.
- Supporting research: Prepare and analyze quantitative data for impact, efficacy, and evaluation studies.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with teams in Research & Evaluation, Product, Implementation, and Operations to translate data into actionable insights.
Candidate Profile
CDI is looking for a professional with strong experience in both data science and data engineering. Required qualifications include:
- Experience: 6+ years in data science, analytics engineering, data engineering, or a related hybrid role.
- Technical proficiency: Expertise in SQL, Python, and R, along with experience building reproducible data workflows.
- Cloud environment skills: Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Reporting experience: Ability to design dashboards and BI tools that are accessible to non-technical users.
- Data quality and governance: Strong judgment in data accuracy, metric definitions, and documentation standards.
- AI integration: Experience leveraging AI tools for data science workflows.
- Analytical problem-solving: Comfort working with ambiguous or messy data to create clear, actionable insights.
- Communication skills: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues effectively.
- Collaboration: Experience working cross-functionally with multiple teams and stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Advanced degree in data science, statistics, social science, computer science, or related fields.
- Familiarity with survey data, higher education datasets, or impact measurement.
- Experience in nonprofit, EdTech, or mission-driven environments.
- Knowledge of civic learning, bridgebuilding, or dialogue-focused initiatives.
