About the Fellowship
The Climate and Environment Data Stewardship Fellow will work as part of AGCI’s Engaged Research Team and report to the Research Director. The successful candidate will help coordinate collaboration among organizations working to improve the long-term quality, accessibility, interoperability and security of climate and environmental data.
The role is particularly suited to professionals who enjoy connecting people and organizations, facilitating collaborative initiatives and translating research and data-related insights into practical action. The fellow will also receive mentorship from leaders across partner organizations involved in climate and environmental data stewardship.
The position is a one-year, full-time fellowship, with a start date as soon as possible and no later than October 1, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
A major part of the role will involve supporting networks working on climate and environmental data. The fellow will help identify shared priorities, facilitate connections between organizations and coordinate collective action across emerging and established initiatives.
The fellow will also support the planning of network meetings, workshops and other convenings. This includes helping consolidate landscape research and analyses while creating opportunities for organizations to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaboration.
Another important responsibility will be strengthening data stewardship practices. The successful candidate will develop an understanding of the data required to support effective climate action and identify opportunities to improve how climate and environmental information is managed and shared.
Peer learning will also be central to the fellowship. The fellow may use surveys, focus groups, scenario planning and other approaches to help organizations share lessons, understand emerging challenges and explore possible future directions.
The role additionally involves connecting data stewardship with the wider climate-action ecosystem and contributing to discussions about how data can support climate solutions and investment.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree, while a master’s degree or doctorate is preferred. At least three years of experience managing communities of practice, working groups, interagency groups or similar collaborative initiatives is expected.
Experience coordinating multi-organization networks is highly relevant, particularly in climate, environmental science or policy. Candidates should also have familiarity with data stewardship principles, including data quality, accessibility, interoperability and security.
Strong communication and organizational skills are essential. Applicants should demonstrate experience with public speaking, facilitation, research, analysis and synthesis, as well as the ability to bring diverse organizations together around shared objectives.
Experience working across institutional, geographic and sectoral boundaries at the science-policy interface will be valuable. Knowledge of the civil society data stewardship landscape is desirable, although the fellowship is also designed to help participants expand their professional networks and knowledge.
Salary, Benefits and Travel
The fellowship offers an anticipated annual salary of US$85,000–US$100,000, with the final salary potentially adjusted according to the successful candidate’s location within the United States.
