CIVICUS Seeks External Learning and Community Design Consultant for a Global 3-Month Consultancy

Civil society professionals with expertise in community building, participatory learning, and movement facilitation have an exciting opportunity to work with CIVICUS Global Alliance. The international alliance is recruiting an External Learning and Community Design Consultant to help shape the future of the WeRise Global FoPA Solidarity Infrastructure, a movement-led global community designed to strengthen collaboration among grassroots organizations worldwide.

This consultancy offers a three-month remote assignment from September to November 2026 with an estimated budget of USD 10,000. Applications are open until 5 August 2026.

About the Consultancy

Following two successful WeRise cohorts that supported 32 grassroots organizations and movement collectives, CIVICUS is transitioning the initiative into a long-term, movement-owned global community.

The selected consultant will lead a collaborative learning and co-creation process that helps members define the community’s vision, governance, priorities, and engagement model. The goal is to ensure that relationships built during the WeRise programme continue to grow beyond grant funding, creating sustainable systems of solidarity and collective action.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant will facilitate a participatory process that enables members to shape the future of the WeRise Community.

Core responsibilities include:

• Conducting a community discovery and ecosystem assessment.
• Facilitating an inclusive listening and consultation process.
• Co-designing the WeRise Community model with members.
• Developing a clear community value proposition.
• Designing a sustainable community engagement framework.
• Preparing a strategic implementation roadmap for launching and growing the community.

The successful consultant will ensure that the design process promotes collaboration, shared ownership, and long-term participation among diverse grassroots organizations.

Expected Deliverables

During the consultancy, the consultant will produce several key outputs, including:

• Inception Report.
• Community Assessment Report.
• WeRise Community Design Framework.
• Community Implementation Roadmap.
• Final Consultancy Report.

These deliverables will provide practical guidance for establishing a sustainable global community that supports learning, collaboration, and movement building.

Who Should Apply?

CIVICUS is looking for experienced professionals with strong backgrounds in community development and participatory learning.

Ideal candidates should demonstrate:

• Extensive experience in movement building, community organizing, or network facilitation.
• Expertise in participatory learning methodologies and organizational learning.
• Experience designing Communities of Practice or collaborative networks.
• Strong understanding of civic space, human rights, and social movements.
• Experience facilitating multicultural and multi-country engagements.
• Excellent qualitative research, analysis, and report-writing skills.
• Knowledge of human-centred design, systems thinking, or participatory design methodologies will be an added advantage.

Consultancy Duration and Budget

The assignment will run for three months, from September through November 2026.
