Rugby Giving Lead Consultant: Remote ChildFund Rugby Opportunity for Elite Athletes|Apply by 26 Aug 2026

ChildFund Rugby is seeking an experienced or former elite rugby athlete to take on the role of Rugby Giving Lead Consultant, a unique remote consultancy opportunity combining rugby, relationship-building and social impact. The consultant will help develop trusted relationships with prospective donors and support fundraising efforts for Pass It Back, ChildFund Rugby’s rugby and life-skills programme for children and young people in vulnerable situations.
The opportunity is particularly suited to rugby professionals who have strong networks, excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in using the sport to create positive social change. The position is remote, part-time and initially expected to focus on North America and Europe.
About ChildFund Rugby and Pass It Back
ChildFund Rugby works with partners to use rugby as a platform for social impact, helping children and young people play, learn and develop leadership skills. Its Pass It Back programme combines rugby with life-skills learning to help young people develop social and emotional skills, overcome challenges and contribute to positive change.
As part of its next stage of development, ChildFund Rugby is establishing the Pass It Back Collective, a global community of rugby-connected supporters whose investment will help the programme reach more children and young people. The Collective will be developed through trusted introductions, personal relationship-building, meaningful engagement, major giving and long-term stewardship.
What the Rugby Giving Lead Consultant Will Do
The successful consultant will manage an assigned portfolio of approximately 25–35 prospective donors at different stages of qualification and cultivation. They will develop relationship strategies, maintain accurate records and ensure that appropriate next steps are consistently followed.
A major part of the position involves using the consultant’s rugby credibility and networks to secure warm introductions to potential supporters. Relationship-building may involve individual meetings, small gatherings, rugby events, Pass It Back briefings, in-person visits and virtual experiences.
The consultant will also contribute to major-giving activities by assessing prospect readiness, supporting gift strategies and participating in significant donor conversations where appropriate. They will help steward Collective members and identify opportunities for renewed giving, advocacy and additional introductions.
A Role Built Around Rugby Networks
Unlike many fundraising positions, previous professional fundraising experience is not required. ChildFund Rugby will provide structured induction, training, practical resources and ongoing mentoring to help the successful candidate develop their relationship-based fundraising capabilities.
However, applicants should have experience as a current or former professional or elite rugby athlete and possess credibility and relevant relationships within the rugby community. Strong communication, listening and storytelling abilities will also be important.
Candidates should be comfortable initiating conversations, maintaining relationships through consistent follow-up and working independently using digital platforms. An openness to learning about fundraising and participating in significant-gift conversations is also expected.
Additional Experience That Could Strengthen an Application
While not mandatory, candidates may benefit from established networks, additional languages or cross-cultural experience relevant to their geographic market. Experience representing rugby through leadership, media, ambassadorial, community, governance or commercial positions may also be advantageous.
Experience in relationship development, business development, partnerships or senior stakeholder engagement could further strengthen a candidate’s suitability.
Remote and Flexible Working Arrangement
The Rugby Giving Lead Consultant position is fully remote and structured as a part-time consultancy requiring approximately 10–12 hours per week. Performance will be assessed primarily through agreed portfolio deliverables and relationship progress rather than fixed working hours.
The consultant will need to work flexibly, including occasional early-morning or evening meetings, to accommodate prospective donors, events and colleagues across different time zones. Domestic and international travel may also be required for selected meetings, rugby events and Pass It Back experiences.
What Success Will Look Like
Success in the role will involve actively progressing the assigned donor portfolio, developing trusted introductions and meaningful conversations, and creating appropriate major-gift opportunities. The consultant will also contribute to the Pass It Back Collective’s membership and revenue targets while ensuring that supporters receive thoughtful and consistent stewardship.
Strong collaboration, accurate reporting, reliable follow-through and credible representation of ChildFund Rugby will also be essential.
How to Apply for the Rugby Giving Lead Consultant Role
Interested candidates should submit a current CV, cover letter, relevant rugby or stakeholder network information, examples of relationship-building experience, availability for approximately 10–12 hours per week and a proposed monthly consultancy fee.
The application deadline is 26 August 2026.
This opportunity offers elite and former rugby athletes a distinctive way to turn their sporting credibility, relationships and passion for social impact into meaningful support for children and young people. Candidates who meet the rugby experience requirements and are ready to build relationships that can generate long-term impact are encouraged to apply before the deadline.
