Director, Raising Child Care Fund: Remote Leadership Opportunity | Apply Now

The Early Childhood Funders Collaborative (ECFC) is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as the Director of the Raising Child Care Fund (RCCF). This is a remote leadership opportunity for a professional with experience in philanthropy, grassroots organizing, fundraising, grantmaking, movement building, or nonprofit leadership.

The Director will guide the next phase of RCCF, a national initiative supporting grassroots organizations working to build a more equitable child care system. The role offers an opportunity to influence child care policy, strengthen philanthropic investment, support community-led movements, and build partnerships across the United States.

About the Raising Child Care Fund

Launched in 2019, the Raising Child Care Fund invests in people and organizations working to create a more equitable child care system. The fund supports grassroots organizers working alongside parents, early educators, caregivers, and child care providers.

RCCF also brings funders together to learn, invest, and act more strategically. What began as an initiative among a small group of foundations has grown into a national network supporting organizing efforts across 19 states and the District of Columbia.

The fund is entering an important new phase as child care systems, grassroots movements, and philanthropy face a changing political and funding environment. Its partners are working to advance universal child care, protect public investments, strengthen coalitions, and develop community leadership.

About the Director Role

The Director will provide strategic leadership for the Raising Child Care Fund and help shape its future direction.

Reporting to the ECFC Executive Director, the successful candidate will lead several major areas, including strategy development, fundraising, grantmaking, funder engagement, education, and relationships with grantee and movement partners.

A key priority will be strengthening RCCF’s financial sustainability. The Director will work to retain existing philanthropic partners while developing relationships with new funders and allies who understand the connections between child care and broader issues such as economic opportunity, workforce development, racial equity, gender equity, immigrant justice, and family well-being.

The role requires someone who can move comfortably between philanthropy and grassroots movements. The Director should understand both the importance of community-led change and the realities, opportunities, and limitations of institutional philanthropy.

Key Areas of Leadership

The successful Director will be expected to build on RCCF’s existing strengths while developing new strategies for growth and sustainability.

This includes strengthening relationships with funders, grantees, organizers, and movement partners. The Director will also need to communicate a compelling case for sustained investment in child care organizing.

Another important responsibility will be understanding when philanthropy should lead, convene, leverage its influence, or step back. This requires strong judgment, relationship-building skills, humility, and an understanding of grassroots power building.

The Director will also steward the values and community-led approach that have helped RCCF become an established national network.

Ideal Candidate

This opportunity is well suited to a senior nonprofit, philanthropic, advocacy, or movement leader who understands how social change organizations operate.

Candidates should have a deep appreciation for grassroots organizing, power building, philanthropy, and community leadership. Experience developing fundraising strategies and cultivating philanthropic relationships will be especially relevant.

The successful candidate should also be comfortable working with diverse stakeholders and building alliances across organizations, communities, funders, and advocacy networks.

Strong strategic thinking, communication, relationship management, fundraising, and leadership skills will be important for success in the position.

The organization encourages applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Middle Eastern and North African, bilingual and/or bicultural candidates, as well as LGBTQ2SIA+ candidates, are encouraged to apply.

Remote Work Opportunity

The Director, Raising Child Care Fund position is advertised as a remote opportunity. This makes it potentially attractive to experienced nonprofit and philanthropic professionals seeking senior-level work that can be performed remotely.

The role combines strategic leadership with fundraising, grantmaking, partnership development, and movement-building responsibilities, making it particularly relevant for candidates with a background in social impact and nonprofit philanthropy.

The available opportunity details do not specify a salary range or application deadline. Candidates should therefore review the official application portal for the latest information before applying.
