Movement CFO is seeking an experienced Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership to social justice organizations across the United States. This fully remote contractor opportunity is designed for an experienced finance professional who can help mission-driven organizations strengthen their financial systems, improve decision-making, manage risk, and build long-term sustainability.

The Fractional CFO will work as a strategic financial partner to executive directors, CEOs, leadership teams, and boards. The role offers compensation starting at $2,500 per client per month, based on an expected commitment of 12–15 hours of service per client.

Applications are open until 5 October 2026, with interviews expected to begin in October.

About the Fractional CFO Opportunity

Movement CFO works with social justice organizations to develop strong and sustainable financial systems. The organization is expanding its team of experienced finance professionals who understand that financial strategy should be rigorous while remaining accessible and connected to the missions of the organizations they support.

The successful Fractional CFO will advise multiple mission-driven clients on areas such as budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial reporting, scenario planning, risk management, funding strategy, and organizational growth.

Rather than simply preparing financial information, the CFO will translate complex financial data into practical insights that help organizational leaders make informed decisions.

Remote Work and Compensation

This is a fully remote position. However, candidates must reside in the United States and be authorized to work in the U.S.

The position is classified as a 1099 contractor and is project-based, with the possibility of increasing the number of clients over time.

Compensation starts at:

$2,500 per client per month

The expected service level is approximately 12–15 hours per client per month. Compensation may increase depending on the complexity of the client, scope of work, and time commitment required.

The Fractional CFO will report to Movement CFO Chief Executive Officer Chanda Jones.

Key Responsibilities

The Fractional CFO will provide senior-level financial guidance tailored to the needs and development stage of each client.

Responsibilities include advising executive leaders and boards on financial sustainability, organizational growth, risk, and strategic financial decisions.

The CFO will also guide clients through budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and multi-year financial planning. They will analyse financial performance, revenue trends, and organizational health while developing scenarios that help leaders understand potential risks and opportunities.

Another important part of the role involves strengthening financial infrastructure. The CFO will provide strategic oversight of financial reporting, internal controls, systems, and operational practices while working with accounting teams, auditors, and external advisors.

The role may also involve overseeing grant and contract finances, restricted funds, audits, Form 990 preparation, funder reporting, and regulatory compliance.

Supporting Organizational Growth

Movement CFO is looking for a finance professional who can contribute beyond traditional accounting functions.

The Fractional CFO may support organizations experiencing growth, restructuring, fiscal sponsorship arrangements, multi-entity development, or other major organizational transitions.

The successful candidate will also help build financial understanding among organizational leaders, staff, and boards. This requires the ability to explain financial information clearly and make complex concepts accessible to people who may not have a finance background.

Who Can Apply?

Candidates should have a CPA, MBA, or another relevant professional credential and experience providing senior-level financial advice.

Applicants should ideally have experience working as a Fractional CFO or advising multiple organizations. Experience supporting organizational growth, restructuring, or significant transitions is also required.

Familiarity with foundations, fiscal sponsorships, advocacy organizations, and multi-entity structures is particularly valuable. Experience with entities such as 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), PAC, and LLC organizations can be relevant to the role.

Key Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate should be a strategic and systems-oriented thinker who can connect financial management with organizational mission and strategy.

Movement CFO is also seeking someone who can build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders, work independently, navigate ambiguity, and provide practical solutions.

Strong communication skills are essential because the CFO must make financial information understandable and useful to organizational leaders.

Candidates should also be comfortable managing multiple client engagements and competing priorities while demonstrating a commitment to transparency, ethical financial stewardship, equity, inclusion, social justice, and movement-building.
