About the Protection Specialist Role
The Protection Specialist will provide technical, managerial, and quality assurance support to CESVI’s protection programmes while mentoring country teams and strengthening protection systems.
The role covers:
- General Protection
- Child Protection
- Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
- Case Management
- Cash for Protection
- Psychosocial Support (PSS)
- Psychological First Aid (PFA)
- Community-Based Protection
- Referral Pathways
The position requires approximately 30% international travel to provide technical assistance to country offices and local partner organisations, including women-led organisations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the design, implementation, and quality improvement of protection programmes across multiple humanitarian contexts.
Responsibilities include:
Programme Quality and Technical Support
- Support integrated protection, child protection, and GBV programmes.
- Strengthen case management systems and ensure compliance with global standards.
- Develop and update protection guidelines, SOPs, and technical tools.
- Improve Cash for Protection programming and risk management processes.
- Conduct protection risk assessments and needs assessments.
Capacity Building
The Protection Specialist will:
- Deliver training and mentoring to country teams.
- Strengthen staff capacity in protection programming.
- Support protection mainstreaming across health, WASH, shelter, livelihoods, and climate-related programmes.
- Promote consistent approaches across country operations.
Coordination and Reporting
The role also includes:
- Supporting proposal development.
- Contributing to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities.
- Preparing donor reports and technical documentation.
- Participating in humanitarian coordination forums and technical working groups.
- Supporting information management and programme reporting.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social sciences, law, international development, gender studies, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of experience in humanitarian protection programming.
- At least three years of experience with international NGOs or United Nations agencies.
- Practical experience in GBV, child protection, or humanitarian case management.
- Experience working with displaced populations, refugees, or emergency settings.
- Strong facilitation and capacity-building skills.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently in complex humanitarian environments.
Candidates must have excellent written and spoken English and Spanish.
Knowledge of additional UN languages and previous emergency response experience will be considered an advantage.
Safeguarding Commitment

Successful candidates will undergo safeguarding and background checks as part of the recruitment process.
