The Grants Finance & Compliance Manager will contribute to ensuring that project funding is properly managed, donor requirements are met and financial resources are used for their intended purposes.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Grants Finance & Compliance, the successful candidate will support the financial management of humanitarian and development projects.
The role focuses on developing systems that promote effective project financial management and ensuring compliance with contractual and donor requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting project accounting cycles.
- Developing effective project financial management systems.
- Monitoring the use of project funds.
- Supporting donor compliance.
- Contributing to project proposal budgets.
- Analyzing expenditure against approved budgets.
- Investigating financial variances.
- Identifying and mitigating financial risks.
- Reviewing and analyzing portfolio performance.
- Supporting forecasting and budget planning.
- Providing financial advice to country office staff.
- Building financial management capacity among programme teams.
- Providing accurate financial information to senior management and donors.
The successful candidate will need to translate complex financial information into clear recommendations that can be understood by non-finance colleagues.
Qualifications and Experience
CARE Canada is seeking candidates with a minimum of three years of experience as a Finance Officer or Financial Analyst.
Applicants should have:
- A university degree in Accounting.
- Strong budgeting and financial management knowledge.
- Experience conducting variance analysis.
- Strong financial analysis and risk assessment skills.
- Knowledge of accounting processes and their impact on wider financial systems.
- Experience assessing financial and reporting implications of donor contracts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- The ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, autonomy and integrity.
Knowledge of contract negotiations involving government agencies, United Nations agencies and private donors is particularly important, especially in relation to humanitarian emergency funding.
Experience That Can Give Applicants an Advantage
Experience working for an international non-governmental organization (INGO) would be considered an advantage.
A professional accounting designation would also strengthen an application.
