About the Business Engagement Manager Role

The Business Engagement Manager will help develop a coalition of climate-leading businesses and encourage corporate stakeholders to support stronger emissions reporting and accountability.

Corporate emissions accounting standards are undergoing global review, creating an opportunity for businesses and other stakeholders to engage with discussions around how companies measure and report their climate impacts.

The successful candidate will work with corporate leaders, industry associations, investors, NGOs, academics, legal experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders. They will help translate technical climate and emissions-accounting issues into clear arguments that can be understood by business audiences.

The role therefore requires a combination of strategic thinking, relationship management, advocacy, communication, and knowledge of corporate climate policy.

Key Responsibilities

A major part of the role will involve campaign strategy. The Business Engagement Manager will co-develop strategies designed to build a coalition of climate-leading companies and secure corporate support for stronger emissions reporting and accountability.

The successful candidate will also develop compelling cases explaining why targeted businesses should support climate policy reform.

Under business engagement and partnerships, the role involves identifying and engaging corporate, political, academic, legal, NGO, and other experts and allies. The manager will build trusted relationships with business leaders, industry associations, investors, and influencers.

The position will also involve developing partnerships with NGOs, coalitions, and multi-stakeholder initiatives while coordinating advocacy efforts across stakeholders with different interests.

Corporate Climate Standards

The Business Engagement Manager will analyse developments in voluntary and mandatory corporate greenhouse gas emissions reporting regimes and standards.

They will develop practical knowledge of how emissions-accounting standards affect corporate decision-making and translate complex technical issues into credible business cases for corporate decision-makers.

This requires someone who can understand technical climate policy while communicating it clearly to non-technical audiences.

Events and Public Engagement

The successful candidate will organize and participate in networking events, roundtables, and forums.

They may also support business-facing meetings, joint statements, and public commitments that demonstrate corporate leadership on climate issues.

Media engagement is another part of the role, including preparing briefings, supporting spokespeople, developing quotes, and conducting background research.

Requirements

Applicants should have significant experience in business engagement or corporate partnerships, together with a record of influencing corporate practice and delivering measurable impact.

Candidates should understand corporate and industry ecosystems and what motivates businesses to take action ahead of regulation.

Knowledge of corporate climate policy and emissions accounting is important. Applicants should also demonstrate strategic and creative thinking, strong relationship-building abilities, and experience developing coalitions across diverse stakeholder groups.

Excellent communication skills are required, particularly the ability to make technical issues accessible to corporate audiences.

Fluency in English is essential. The ability to engage stakeholders in English, Spanish and/or Portuguese is highly valuable.

Remote Working and Compensation

This is a fully remote position with flexible working arrangements. ASL currently has a preference for candidates based in Latin America.

The role is offered at 0.8–1 FTE, depending on the arrangement agreed with the successful candidate.

Salary is competitive and determined according to location. For candidates based in Brazil, the indicative full-time salary is R$12,000–R$13,500 per month.

The position includes regular international calls that may fall outside standard working hours and requires some international travel.

What ASL Offers

The successful candidate will join an international team working on corporate climate accountability. The organization offers flexible remote working, a supportive and family-friendly environment, professional development and networking opportunities, and collaboration with climate organizations across approximately 20 countries.

The position provides an opportunity to work on corporate climate standards, business engagement, coalition building, and climate advocacy.
