Bodhi Global Analysis, a women-led international development research consultancy, is seeking experienced National Consultants in Burkina Faso. Founded in London in 2017, with subsidiaries in Nairobi, Singapore, and Dar es Salaam, Bodhi specializes in formative and evaluative research for UN agencies, bilateral donors, INGOs, and regional organizations. The consultancy is expanding its roster in Burkina Faso to support a growing portfolio of conflict analysis, human security assessments, and resilience research. Key Responsibilities
The National Consultant will support Bodhi’s project teams across research, data collection, and coordination. Responsibilities include:
Research and Analysis
- Conduct desk-based research on conflict dynamics, governance trends, human security threats, and resilience factors using academic literature, policy reports, media sources, and institutional data.
- Undertake stakeholder mapping to identify and categorize actors in government, civil society, security sectors, and the development community.
- Prepare scoping surveys and baseline analyses to inform primary data collection.
- Contribute to analytical reports, policy briefs, and assessment outputs, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative findings into actionable recommendations.
Primary Data Collection
- Plan and conduct key informant interviews with government officials, security actors, traditional and religious leaders, civil society representatives, international organization staff, and community members.
- Facilitate focus group discussions with diverse stakeholders using gender-sensitive and conflict-sensitive approaches.
- Support workshops, including inception sessions and validation exercises with national stakeholders.
- Ensure ethical standards, informed consent, and safeguarding protocols are maintained in all data collection activities.
Coordination and Logistics
- Assist with field mission coordination, including scheduling interviews, securing venues, and managing logistics.
- Liaise with national authorities, research institutions, and civil society organizations to facilitate access and engagement.
- Provide real-time contextual and security updates to project teams and advise on risk mitigation.
- Support translation and interpretation as required during interviews and workshops.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
- Master’s degree in international relations, political science, peace and conflict studies, social sciences, or related fields.
- Minimum of 7 years’ professional experience in conflict analysis, human security research, political economy analysis, or resilience assessments, with a focus on Burkina Faso.
- Strong understanding of Burkina Faso’s conflict dynamics, including Sahel and northern regions, governance challenges, inter-communal tensions, and the humanitarian landscape.
- Knowledge of the national peace and security architecture and relevant civil society actors.
- Proven qualitative research experience, including key informant interviews and focus group facilitation with senior stakeholders.
- Excellent drafting, synthesis, and communication skills in French; fluency in written and spoken French required.
- Current residence in Burkina Faso with ability to travel to regional and remote areas.
- Established professional networks within government, civil society, academia, and international development.
Strongly Desirable
- Working knowledge of English to contribute to international research outputs.
- Experience with regional organizations, early warning frameworks, and conflict prevention initiatives in West Africa.
- Familiarity with digital data collection tools and both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
- Knowledge of broader Sahel regional dynamics and cross-border conflict trends.
- Previous publications on conflict, governance, or human security in Burkina Faso or the Sahel.
- Experience working with UN agencies, bilateral donors, or INGOs in Burkina Faso.
