Director, Individual Giving at Cure Blindness Project – Remote Leadership Role in Global Health Fundraising

The Director of Individual Giving position at Cure Blindness Project represents a senior-level opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to lead and expand a high-impact donor program focused on eliminating avoidable blindness worldwide. Based remotely in the United States, this full-time role offers a salary range of $95,000 to $120,000 and reports directly to the Chief Development Officer.

At its core, the position sits at the intersection of strategic fundraising, relationship management, and organizational growth. Individual giving is the largest revenue stream for Cure Blindness Project, making this role central to sustaining and scaling its global mission. With more than 43 million people living with blindness and millions more affected by vision impairment—most of which is preventable or treatable—the organization’s work has life-changing implications. Through millions of surgeries, screenings, and training programs across 30+ countries, it has already demonstrated measurable global impact.

Leading a High-Impact Fundraising Strategy

The Director of Individual Giving is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that spans major gifts, mid-level giving, annual appeals, and planned giving. This requires a balance of strategic vision and hands-on execution, particularly in building long-term donor pipelines and meeting ambitious revenue goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and leading a multi-channel individual giving strategy
  • Growing and diversifying revenue streams across donor segments
  • Ensuring consistent donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade pathways

The role requires someone who understands how to translate global health outcomes into compelling donor narratives that inspire sustained financial support.

Managing Major Donor Relationships

A core element of the role is direct stewardship of a personal portfolio of approximately 75 to 125 high-value donors and prospects. These relationships often involve five- and six-figure gifts, requiring a sophisticated approach to cultivation, engagement, and solicitation.

The Director is expected to:

  • Build personalized engagement strategies for each donor
  • Conduct direct solicitation conversations for major gifts
  • Strengthen long-term donor loyalty through meaningful stewardship

This work is central to maintaining and growing the organization’s financial stability and enabling expansion of sight-restoring programs globally.

Building a Strong Pipeline and Planned Giving Program

Beyond managing existing donors, the Director plays a critical role in identifying and qualifying new prospects. This includes leveraging wealth screening tools, referrals from leadership and board members, and strategic engagement opportunities.

In addition, the role involves developing or expanding a planned giving program. This includes designing legacy giving strategies and promoting vehicles such as:

  • Bequests
  • Charitable gift annuities
  • Donor-advised funds (DAFs)
  • Stock and estate gifts

These long-term revenue streams are essential for organizational sustainability and future growth.

Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration

The Director of Individual Giving works closely with senior leadership, including the Chief Development Officer and executive team, to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities. This includes preparing briefing materials, donor talking points, and engagement strategies for high-level meetings.

The role also requires collaboration with marketing and communications teams to ensure consistency in donor messaging across campaigns, appeals, and impact storytelling. In addition, the Director provides leadership to fundraising staff, offering coaching, performance management, and professional development.

Systems, Reporting, and Donor Intelligence

Data-driven decision-making is an important part of the role. The Director maintains accurate donor records using CRM systems such as Salesforce and provides regular reporting on:

  • Revenue forecasts
  • Pipeline health
  • Donor engagement metrics
  • Fundraising performance against targets

This analytical component ensures that fundraising strategies remain adaptive and aligned with organizational needs.

Skills and Experience Required

Candidates are expected to bring at least 10 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience, with a strong emphasis on individual giving and major gifts. A proven track record of securing five- and six-figure donations is essential, along with experience managing a large donor portfolio.

Additional requirements include:

  • Experience leading fundraising teams
  • Familiarity with planned giving programs
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills
  • CRM proficiency (e.g., Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge)
  • Ability to travel up to 25% internationally and domestically

Experience in global health or international development is highly preferred, as is the ability to connect donors to a deeply impactful mission.

A Mission-Driven Leadership Opportunity

This role is ideal for a fundraising leader who is motivated by both strategy and impact. At Cure Blindness Project, the Director of Individual Giving directly contributes to restoring sight and transforming lives around the world. It is a position that blends entrepreneurial fundraising, relationship-building, and global health impact into one highly influential leadership opportunity.
