The Black Organizing Project (BOP) is a Black-led community organization committed to advancing racial, social, and economic justice through grassroots organizing and community-building in Oakland, California, and across the Bay Area. BOP’s mission centers on revitalizing Oakland’s Black community by fostering leadership development, political education, and systemic change. The organization prioritizes a holistic approach to staff well-being, offering competitive salaries, a four-day workweek, and three paid company-wide seasonal breaks per year. While the organization operates a hybrid work model, all program staff must live within a one-hour driving distance of Oakland, CA.

Organizational Vision and Culture

BOP envisions a strong bottom-up organization of Black people that advances racial and economic justice, rebuilds community foundations, exercises political and economic power, and achieves real systemic change. Staff are expected to actively contribute to a culture of radical care, equity, and joyful connection to Black Liberation while demonstrating thoughtful understanding of political and historical contexts. Conflict resolution through transformative justice, generative communication, and sustaining a healthy, positive work environment are core expectations for team members.
