Bixal Hiring Senior Platform Engineer: Fully Remote U.S. Role Paying Up to $145,000

Experienced cloud and platform engineering professionals have an opportunity to join Bixal as a Senior Platform Engineer, supporting the infrastructure, automation, observability, and deployment systems that engineering teams rely on every day.

The position is fully remote within the continental United States and offers a salary range of $135,000 to $145,000 per year. It is part of Bixal’s Client Delivery team and focuses on Cloud & Compliance.

About Bixal

Bixal is a consulting company headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, that works with governments and organisations to improve services and experiences through technology, communications, data, and human-centred design.

The company focuses on evidence-based approaches, continuous improvement, collaboration, and creating lasting impact.

For the Senior Platform Engineer, this means working on a mission-critical federal platform while helping engineering teams improve reliability, deployment safety, and developer productivity.

Senior Platform Engineer Remote Opportunity

The Senior Platform Engineer will build and operate the technical foundation that supports software engineering teams.

The role has a strong focus on CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automation, observability, and platform reliability.

The successful candidate will work hands-on with technologies including Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, and Datadog, while helping create reusable platform templates and automated environments.

This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to have a direct impact on how development teams build, deploy, monitor, and operate applications.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Platform Engineer will be responsible for several important areas of platform engineering, including:

  • Building and operating CI/CD pipelines.
  • Developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Creating and maintaining Terraform templates.
  • Implementing observability through Datadog.
  • Developing instrumentation and alerting systems.
  • Establishing and monitoring service-level objectives.
  • Supporting environment automation.
  • Participating in on-call rotations.
  • Developing golden-path delivery solutions.
  • Improving environment stability and deployment safety.
  • Increasing configuration consistency across services.
  • Supporting incident response and production operations.
  • Automating repetitive operational processes.
  • Improving developer productivity and team velocity.
  • Participating in two-week development sprints.
  • Contributing to backlog refinement and architecture reviews.

The role combines hands-on technical engineering with broader platform improvement and operational responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

Bixal is looking for an experienced professional with substantial platform engineering experience.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Applicants should demonstrate experience building and maintaining delivery pipelines, infrastructure automation, and shared platform services for high-availability systems.

Experience improving deployment safety, environment stability, and configuration consistency is also important.

Candidates should understand how to implement monitoring and alerting systems that support effective incident response and production operations.

Strong automation skills are required because the position focuses heavily on eliminating repetitive operational work and improving engineering efficiency.

Technology Skills

The position requires solid knowledge of several modern DevOps and cloud engineering technologies.

Important technical experience includes:

  • Terraform.
  • GitLab CI/CD.
  • Datadog.
  • Infrastructure as Code.
  • CI/CD pipelines.
  • Environment automation.
  • Monitoring and alerting.
  • Shared platform services.
  • FedRAMP-authorized toolchains.

Experience designing Terraform-based golden-path or Infrastructure as Code modules in federal or regulated environments would be an advantage.

Previous experience in federal government or large-scale enterprise platform engineering is also considered desirable.

Security Clearance Requirement

Because the position supports a federal platform, applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 4 High Risk Public Trust clearance.

Candidates should therefore carefully review the eligibility and security requirements before submitting an application.

The application also asks candidates whether they currently hold or have previously held a U.S. government clearance and whether they have previously worked directly for a federal government agency or supported a U.S. federal contract.

Salary and Benefits

The Senior Platform Engineer position offers a salary range of $135,000 to $145,000 annually.

Bixal states that most offers tend to fall near the midpoint of the salary range, with compensation decisions based on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Employees can also receive a range of benefits, including:

  • Flexible working hours.
  • 401(k) with matching incentive.
  • Parental leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Account.
  • Company-provided short-term disability and life insurance.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • Paid Time Off.
  • 11 paid holidays.

These benefits complement the fully remote structure of the role.

Fully Remote—but U.S.-Only

Although the position is advertised as fully remote, there is an important geographic restriction.

Applicants must be able to work from the continental United States. Bixal states that it cannot hire candidates from U.S. territories or countries outside the United States for this position.

Applicants must also confirm that they are eligible to work in the United States for any employer and are authorised to work without employment visa sponsorship.

This means the role is not an international remote position despite being listed as fully remote.

Who Should Apply?

The opportunity is best suited to experienced platform engineers, DevOps engineers, cloud engineers, infrastructure engineers, and professionals with strong automation and production operations backgrounds.

Candidates who can combine technical expertise with independent problem-solving and a focus on measurable improvements in reliability and developer productivity may be particularly well suited.

Experience with federal, regulated, or enterprise environments can further strengthen an application.

How to Apply

Applicants should be prepared to submit a resume and cover letter through Bixal’s careers portal.

The application requires candidates to provide information regarding U.S. work eligibility, working location, expected minimum compensation, security clearance history, federal contracting experience, and previous employment with Bixal.

For qualified U.S.-based platform engineering professionals, this Senior Platform Engineer opportunity at Bixal offers a combination of senior-level technical responsibilities, federal platform experience, fully remote work, competitive compensation, and comprehensive employee benefits.
