Position Overview

The Grants Associate plays a key role in supporting the Trust’s fundraising and grant-securing efforts. Working closely with Grants Managers, the Grants Associate will assist in identifying, applying for, and managing funding opportunities at the federal, state, and local levels. The position also contributes to internal land preservation projects, helping to ensure that historic sites are documented, maintained, and preserved effectively.

This role is ideal for individuals with strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a passion for historic preservation, community engagement, and nonprofit work.

Key Responsibilities

The Grants Associate will perform the following duties:

• Grant Application Support:
  • Compile application materials, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with nonprofit and government partners to document the historic significance of properties.
  • Gather mapping and other information to strengthen grant submissions.
• Reporting and Compliance:
  • Assist with quarterly and annual grant reports.
  • Ensure grant documentation meets all funding requirements and deadlines.
• Research and Development:
  • Conduct research on new federal, state, and local grant programs related to battlefield preservation, open space protection, environmental conservation, and water quality initiatives.
  • Support efforts to enhance the Trust’s grant strategy and funding outreach.
• Project Support:
  • Provide assistance on internal land preservation projects.
  • Collaborate with staff across departments to ensure accurate and timely completion of grant-related tasks.

This combination of responsibilities allows the Grants Associate to develop a broad understanding of nonprofit fundraising, grant management, and historic land preservation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) required.
• Experience: At least two years of relevant experience, including grant writing or administration.
• Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Interest or experience in historic preservation, conservation, or nonprofit work.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
