Baobab Mentorship Sprint 2026: Two-Week Virtual Mentorship Opportunity for Young Africans

The Baobab Mentorship Sprint is offering young Africans an opportunity to prepare for a meaningful mentorship experience through a focused two-week virtual learning programme. The initiative is designed for individuals who have already applied or intend to apply to the Baobab Platform Mentorship Program and want to build the knowledge and confidence needed to make the most of a future mentor–mentee relationship.

The programme combines online learning, expert-led masterclasses, peer discussions and networking opportunities. Participants who successfully complete the course sprint will also earn a certificate, making the experience useful for both personal and professional development.

What Is the Baobab Mentorship Sprint?

The Baobab Mentorship Sprint is a two-week virtual experience focused on helping participants understand mentorship and prepare effectively for one-to-one engagement with a mentor.

Rather than simply connecting participants with mentors, the sprint helps young Africans develop the skills and understanding required to build a productive mentorship relationship. Participants will complete a dedicated mentorship course on the Baobab platform while learning from experts and interacting with other young Africans.

The programme is particularly relevant to individuals who want guidance in their careers, education, leadership development, entrepreneurship or personal growth.

Who Can Participate?

The opportunity is open to young Africans who have applied or are planning to apply to the Baobab Platform Mentorship Program.

Participants do not need to attend a physical location because the entire sprint is delivered virtually. This allows young people from different African countries and locations to participate and learn together.

The virtual format also provides an opportunity to develop relationships with peers beyond participants’ immediate communities.

What Will Participants Learn?

One of the main components of the programme is the Mentorship Course on Baobab. Participants will be expected to complete the course during the sprint.

The course is designed to help participants understand how to approach mentorship effectively and prepare for meaningful interactions with their future mentors.

Participants will also take part in live masterclasses led by mentorship experts. These sessions provide an opportunity to learn directly from professionals with experience in mentoring and personal development.

Through expert guidance, participants can gain practical insights into building productive mentor–mentee relationships, setting expectations and making better use of mentorship opportunities.

Peer Learning and Networking

The Baobab Mentorship Sprint is not only about completing an online course. Participants will also have opportunities to engage in peer discussions and shared learning.

Connecting with fellow young Africans can provide valuable perspectives and encourage participants to learn from experiences different from their own.

The networking element can also help participants expand their professional and personal connections across the continent. For young people seeking career development opportunities, these relationships may become valuable sources of knowledge, collaboration and support.

Preparing for One-to-One Mentorship

A major objective of the sprint is to prepare participants for their one-to-one mentorship journey.

Having access to a mentor can be valuable, but participants need to understand how to make the relationship productive. Preparation can help mentees identify their goals, communicate their expectations and engage more effectively with their mentors.

The sprint provides a structured opportunity to think about what participants want to achieve before beginning their individual mentorship experience.

This preparation can help participants approach mentorship with greater clarity, confidence and purpose.

Certificate Upon Completion

Participants who successfully complete the programme will have the opportunity to earn a certificate.

The certificate provides recognition of participation and successful completion of the mentorship sprint. Participants may also find the learning experience useful when developing their professional profiles, particularly when demonstrating commitment to personal development, leadership and continuous learning.

Programme Dates and Format

The Baobab Mentorship Sprint will run from 24 August to 4 September 2026.

The programme is completely virtual, making it accessible to young Africans regardless of where they are located, provided they have the necessary internet access to participate.

Why Young Africans Should Consider Applying

Mentorship can provide young professionals and emerging leaders with access to guidance, knowledge and perspectives that can support their development. However, the quality of a mentorship experience can depend significantly on how prepared the mentee is.

The Baobab Mentorship Sprint provides a structured way to prepare before entering a one-to-one mentorship relationship. Participants can learn from experts, interact with peers, complete a dedicated course and clarify what they hope to gain from mentorship.

For young Africans looking to strengthen their professional networks and prepare for future opportunities, the programme offers a practical learning experience that can be completed online.
