Role Overview
AWDF is seeking an Impact and Learning (I&L) Specialist on a consultancy basis to support the organisation’s impact measurement, learning, and evaluation agenda. The role will focus on managing external evaluations, documenting programme impact, and strengthening organisational learning systems.
The Specialist will work closely with:
- Two Impact and Learning Officers
- Programme teams
- The wider AWDF team
The position reports directly to the Director of Programmes and plays a critical role in ensuring that AWDF’s work is evidence-driven, reflective, and aligned with its strategic priorities.
Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
The Impact and Learning Specialist will be responsible for the following core areas:
Evaluation Management and Oversight
- Lead and manage baseline, midline, and endline evaluations
- Draft evaluation Terms of Reference (ToRs)
- Oversee external consultants and ensure methodological rigor
- Coordinate evaluation logistics, sampling, data collection, and quality assurance
- Ensure findings generate clear, actionable insights for programme improvement
Learning, Analysis, and Knowledge Generation
- Facilitate participatory interpretation of evaluation findings with stakeholders, including grantees
- Lead the documentation of:
- Impact stories
- Case studies
- Lessons learned and best practices
- Produce learning products such as:
- Learning briefs
- Synthesis papers
- Presentations for partners, donors, internal teams, and the Board
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Systems
- Lead the development and updating of:
- MEL frameworks
- Theories of Change
- Results frameworks and indicators
- MEL plans
- Design and refine data collection tools, methodologies, and protocols
- Coordinate the development of MEL guidelines and instruments for internal and external stakeholders
- Support the enhancement of AWDF’s organisational MEL framework to track implementation of the Strategic Plan (Lemlem)
Reporting and Strategic Support
- Support project close-out and documentation processes, including data repositories
- Provide MEL expertise for:
- Project proposal development
- Donor, board, and internal reporting requirements
- Contribute to organisational reflection, learning, and adaptive management processes
Working Approach
The role requires a collaborative and feminist approach to impact and learning, ensuring that:
- Grantee voices and lived experiences are centred
- Data and evidence are used ethically and responsibly
- Learning is embedded across programmes and organisational practice
