The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is inviting qualified consultants to support a virtual learning initiative focused on strengthening feminist organisations’ ability to communicate, document, and report their impact. The consultancy opportunity is part of the No to Backlash Project: Supporting the Collective Resistance of Women’s and Feminist Movements in Africa, which aims to reinforce women’s rights movements across the continent.

The remote consultancy is open to applicants globally, with preference for consultants based and working in Africa. Applications close on 17 July 2026.

The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is a Pan-African feminist fund dedicated to supporting women’s rights organisations and feminist movements across Africa. Through strategic grantmaking, capacity development, advocacy, and feminist knowledge creation, AWDF works to advance gender justice and strengthen movements working for equality.

The organisation provides resources and support to women-led initiatives addressing social, economic, political, and cultural barriers affecting women and gender-diverse communities across the continent.

About the No to Backlash Project

The consultancy is part of the No to Backlash Project, a regional initiative responding to increasing coordinated attacks against women’s rights and feminist movements across Africa.

Funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), the project seeks to strengthen collective resistance strategies, support feminist organising, and help women’s rights organisations challenge anti-gender narratives and actions.

The initiative is implemented jointly by AWDF, Fonds pour les Femmes Congolaises (FFC), and Urgent Action Fund–Africa (UAF-Africa). Together, these organisations combine expertise in feminist funding, movement strengthening, rapid response mechanisms, and protection support for women human rights defenders.

The project operates across 10 priority African countries, supporting organisations working to protect gender justice gains and create stronger feminist networks.

Consultancy Opportunity: Project Partners’ Convening on Communicating and Reporting Impact

AWDF is seeking a consultant to plan and facilitate two virtual Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) capacity-strengthening sessions for project partners.

The sessions will focus on improving partners’ ability to:

• Document project outcomes and impact effectively.
• Develop stronger feminist approaches to Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning.
• Use storytelling methods to communicate change and movement impact.
• Strengthen reporting practices through qualitative and quantitative approaches.
• Share lessons, experiences, and strategies from their work.

The consultant will play a key role in helping feminist organisations better capture the significance of their work and communicate their achievements to different audiences.

Key Responsibilities of the Consultant

The selected consultant will be responsible for designing and facilitating engaging online sessions that respond to partners’ learning needs.

Responsibilities will include:

• Developing a suitable approach and methodology for the virtual sessions.
• Facilitating participatory MEL learning sessions.
• Supporting partners to understand feminist MEL frameworks.
• Introducing effective storytelling techniques for advocacy and reporting.
• Creating spaces for reflection, knowledge sharing, and collective learning.
• Ensuring sessions are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with feminist principles.

The sessions are expected to take place during the last week of July 2026.

Required Consultant Profile

AWDF is looking for a consultant with strong experience in feminist movements, MEL practices, and capacity building.

Ideal candidates should have:

• Registration status and be based in Africa.
• Leadership by women and/or gender-diverse persons.
• Expertise in women’s rights advocacy, organisations, and feminist movements within the focus countries.
• Strong experience in quantitative and qualitative MEL processes.
• Knowledge of Feminist MEL approaches and storytelling methodologies.
• Excellent English and French communication skills, including writing, reading, and speaking.
• Experience delivering virtual training and facilitation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• A flexible and collaborative working approach.
• Commitment to feminist values, equality, diversity, and human rights principles.
