Hybrid/Remote Ashinaga Internship Program – Applications Open for Spring/Summer 2026

The Ashinaga Foundation, a renowned Japanese non-profit organization, is now accepting applications for its Spring/Summer 2026 Internship Program. The foundation provides both financial support and emotional care to young people worldwide who have lost one or both parents or whose parents face disabilities that prevent them from working sufficiently. The internship offers a unique opportunity for students, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in the non-profit sector, develop international networks, and cultivate essential career skills in a meaningful and socially impactful environment.
The Ashinaga Internship Program is designed to expose participants to the operational, strategic, and programmatic aspects of a global non-profit organization. Interns will work alongside dedicated teams on projects related to the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI), Japan-based student activities, and other organizational programs. This experience equips participants with practical knowledge of non-profit management, cross-cultural collaboration, and the challenges and opportunities inherent in the social sector.
Program Benefits
Interns with Ashinaga gain access to a supportive, multicultural work environment and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to global social initiatives. Key benefits include:
- Multicultural Working Environment: Collaborate with colleagues and interns from around the world, gaining exposure to diverse perspectives in the international non-profit sector.
- Multiple Intern Positions Available: Internships are offered in a variety of teams, including the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) and Japan-based student programs, allowing participants to select roles aligned with their interests and skills.
- Flexible Working Arrangements: Interns can choose part-time or full-time schedules that suit their availability, including remote, in-person, or hybrid options, ensuring accessibility for participants regardless of location.
In-Person and Hybrid Internships in Tokyo
For interns residing in the Tokyo Metropolitan area, the program offers flexible options: in-person work at the Ashinaga headquarters in Chiyoda, fully remote participation, or a hybrid arrangement. These options allow participants to tailor their experience while engaging directly with Japan-based teams, participating in key projects, and attending events and meetings at the headquarters.
Remote Internships
Interns living outside Tokyo or overseas can apply for fully remote positions. Remote interns will engage with projects virtually, collaborate with international teams, and gain the same professional development opportunities as in-person participants. Remote interns are expected to maintain consistent communication, participate actively in virtual meetings, and contribute to assigned tasks and projects.
Please note: Ashinaga Foundation does not provide flights, accommodation, or visa support. Applicants should have arrangements in place to participate in Tokyo-based roles or apply for remote internships if they cannot be in Japan during the program.
Program Timeline
The Spring/Summer 2026 Internship Program will run from 11 May to 31 July 2026. Depending on team needs and intern performance, extensions may be offered from 3 August to 25 September 2026, subject to mutual agreement between the intern and the organization.
