What Is the Global Surge Team?

The IRC’s Global Surge Team (GST) consists of highly skilled humanitarian professionals who are deployed at short notice to support emergency operations around the world. Team members fill critical capacity gaps during sudden-onset disasters, complex emergencies, and other humanitarian crises.

Deployments typically last up to three months, depending on operational needs. While surge assignments cannot be guaranteed, team members must be ready to deploy internationally within 72 hours whenever emergencies arise.

This flexible arrangement allows experienced professionals to contribute directly to life-saving humanitarian responses across multiple countries.

About the Emergency Grants Coordinator Role

The Emergency Grants Coordinator serves as a key member of emergency response teams by ensuring that humanitarian programs receive effective grants management support. The role combines proposal development, donor compliance, reporting, information management, and coordination with multiple stakeholders.

Successful candidates will oversee the full grants management cycle, ensuring donor requirements are met while enabling program teams to focus on delivering assistance to affected communities.

The coordinator also supports strategic planning, strengthens grants management systems, mentors local staff, and works closely with finance, monitoring and evaluation, communications, and headquarters teams.

Key Responsibilities

This role includes a wide range of responsibilities essential to successful humanitarian operations, including:

• Coordinating high-quality funding proposals and donor submissions.
• Managing grant timelines and ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
• Developing donor reports and monitoring program performance.
• Supporting monitoring, evaluation, and data management systems.
• Recruiting, training, and mentoring in-country grants staff.
• Maintaining comprehensive grant documentation and reporting schedules.
• Coordinating partner sub-grant processes and compliance reviews.
• Advising program teams on donor regulations and visibility requirements.
• Representing the IRC in coordination meetings with governments, donors, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners.
• Supporting emergency communications and ensuring smooth handovers between deployments.

The position requires exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in rapidly changing emergency environments.

Who Should Apply?
