ARISE Network Entrepreneurship and Innovation Expert Consultant: 4-Month Remote Consultancy Opportunity
Professionals with experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, health workforce development, and African innovation ecosystems have an exciting opportunity to contribute to a regional initiative through the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Expert Consultant position with the Africa Research, Implementation Science, and Education (ARISE) Network.
The consultancy offers an opportunity to work remotely, with minimal travel, and contribute to strategies designed to strengthen Africa’s health workforce, promote innovation, create employment pathways, and support young people—including women and girls—in accessing public health and civil service careers.
About the Consultancy
The ARISE Network is seeking an experienced consultant to provide technical and strategic expertise in entrepreneurship and innovation. The selected professional will support the ARISE leadership team and the Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH) in developing practical approaches to entrepreneurship, commercialization, innovation, and job creation.
The consultancy is scheduled to run for up to four months, from September to December 2026. The position is primarily remote, although minimal travel may be required.
The consultant will contribute to the development of South-South partnerships involving African academic institutions, research organizations, public authorities, private-sector organizations, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
The successful consultant will play an important role in integrating entrepreneurship and job creation into the wider programme strategy.
Key responsibilities include providing strategic and technical advice on entrepreneurship and innovation training for students and recent graduates. The consultant will recommend relevant curriculum components, training modules, experiential learning opportunities, mentorship programmes, venture incubation models, and innovation support mechanisms.
Another important responsibility will be assessing entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems in up to five participating African countries. This will involve examining relevant policies, laws, regulations, institutional systems, and other factors that influence entrepreneurship and innovation.
The consultant will also identify potential pathways for creating jobs at scale and provide substantive input into programme design and narrative development, particularly in areas relating to employment and economic opportunities.
The role will involve advising on ways to engage private-sector organizations, investors, industry partners, accelerators, incubators, and other innovation ecosystem stakeholders. The consultant will help strengthen venture development, capital investment, commercialization, and employment pathways.
In addition, the consultant will provide technical support during ARISE Network member convenings and contribute to approaches that enable young people, including women and girls, to participate more effectively in the civil service workforce.
Who Can Apply?
This consultancy is aimed at experienced professionals with strong academic and practical backgrounds in entrepreneurship, innovation, business, economics, public health, or related fields.
Applicants should have at least a master’s degree or equivalent in business administration, entrepreneurship, innovation management, economics, public health, or a related discipline.
Candidates are also expected to have at least five years of relevant professional experience in areas such as entrepreneurship, innovation ecosystems, startup development, or venture incubation.
Experience designing or implementing entrepreneurship and innovation training programmes—particularly within universities or research institutions—is highly relevant.
The ideal candidate should also have expertise in health innovation, public health entrepreneurship, or health technology ventures, especially within low- and middle-income country contexts.
Strong knowledge of African innovation ecosystems is important. Candidates should understand the role of accelerators, incubators, venture capital networks, innovation hubs, and other organizations supporting entrepreneurship across the continent.
Experience with research translation, commercialization, technology transfer, or startup development emerging from academic or research institutions will also be valuable.
Skills and Experience
The successful consultant should be familiar with African policy, regulatory, and institutional environments affecting entrepreneurship and innovation. Experience developing partnerships with private-sector organizations, investors, industry partners, and innovation stakeholders will be an advantage.
Applicants should demonstrate strong communication, facilitation, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills. The ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams involving academics, government representatives, private-sector organizations, and development partners will be particularly important.
Experience advising universities, global health programmes, or development initiatives on entrepreneurship, innovation strategy, or workforce development would further strengthen an application.
