Research Intern – Just Green Technology Transition at APRI

The African Policy Research Institute (APRI) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic research intern to join its team for the Just Green Technology Transition research program.

APRI collaborates with African intellectuals, scholars, and networks, as well as local and international organizations, to conduct research that challenges prevailing narratives and places African perspectives at the center. Its work spans reports, policy briefs, short analyses, and innovative dissemination approaches to ensure research impacts policy and practice.

APRI Research Internship Overview

The research intern will support APRI’s efforts to explore Africa’s green technology landscape and contribute to policy-oriented research aimed at fostering a just and sustainable technological transition.

The position offers hands-on experience in research, policy analysis, and event coordination, while providing exposure to international networks and stakeholders in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, data analysis, writing, and editing on topics related to green technology, climate policy, and trade in Africa.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of workshops, webinars, and other events.
  • Contribute to the development of online content, including databases, visual assets, and other digital materials.
  • Provide administrative and project support to ensure smooth program operations.

Requirements

  • Completed postgraduate studies in climate policy, technology policy, trade policy, economics, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, particularly relating to green technology policy within the African context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Reliable, flexible, self-motivated, and able to independently manage and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for teamwork and collaboration.
  • Applicants based in Europe must be currently enrolled in a European university (German: Pflichtpraktikum).

Terms of Internship

  • Full-time, with a monthly stipend of €556
  • Duration: 3–6 months, with the possibility of extension
  • Location: Berlin, Germany, or remote
  • Start Date: January 2026
