The position offers a rate of £250 per day and is expected to involve around two days per month for three months, although alternative arrangements may be considered depending on project needs.
Applications must be submitted by 5 October 2026 at midday.
About All The Elements CIC
All The Elements CIC is a nonprofit network supporting people who are working to create change around diversity in the UK outdoors. Its work brings together diversity, outdoor activities, nature, conservation and environmental issues.
The organisation supports people through one-to-one conversations, online and in-person events, online resources and consultancy services. It currently operates with a small part-time team supported by community volunteers and is looking to expand its capacity as demand for its work increases.
The new Community Board is intended to strengthen community participation and ensure that the organisation continues to respond to the needs and experiences of its wider community.
About the Community Board Lead Role
The Community Board Lead will play an important role in establishing the new Community Board. The position will involve researching existing community board and advisory structures and identifying approaches that could work for the organisation.
The successful candidate will also consult with community members to understand the purpose they want the Community Board to serve, how they would like their voices represented and what type of structure they would prefer.
The role will require someone who can turn consultation findings into practical systems and processes. The successful applicant will help develop recruitment processes, meeting structures, a Chair role description and ways for Community Board recommendations to be communicated to the organisation’s main Board.
The Community Board Lead will also create an implementation timeline and ensure that the proposed arrangements are equitable, effective and suitable for a nonprofit organisation.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Researching existing community board and community advisory models.
- Leading consultations with members of the community.
- Developing processes for recruiting Community Board members.
- Designing suitable meeting structures and processes.
- Developing a role description for the Community Board Chair.
- Establishing how Community Board recommendations will reach the central Board.
- Creating a practical implementation timeline.
- Ensuring that proposed structures can evolve as community needs change.
Skills and Experience
Applicants should have strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and be able to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Candidates should also have strong project management skills and experience designing and delivering projects from the beginning through to completion. Experience with community consultation, including focus groups, surveys or similar approaches, is important.
An understanding of traditional board structures and their strengths and limitations will also be valuable. Candidates should be creative and flexible when developing solutions while keeping community needs at the centre of their work.
A commitment to making the outdoors more accessible and representative of UK society is required. Knowledge of the All The Elements community and its intersectional work is also expected.
Desirable Experience
Experience in research, emergent strategy or alternative governance structures would be useful. Previous board-level experience is also advantageous.
Experience connected to underrepresented groups represented within the All The Elements community may be beneficial, whether through professional or lived experience.
Candidates with knowledge of nonprofit organisations and Community Interest Companies (CICs) may also have an advantage. Familiarity with Google Workspace, Airtable and Trello is desirable, although applicants who can quickly learn new software may also be considered.
