ALIMA Opens Recruitment for East Africa Emergency Surge Team Roster | Deadline: 16 June 2026

ALIMA is strengthening its emergency response operations in East Africa through the creation of the ALIMA EAST – East Africa Surge Team, a multidisciplinary humanitarian roster designed to rapidly deploy skilled professionals to crisis-affected areas across Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Kenya.

The international medical NGO is seeking experienced humanitarian workers who can support emergency operations, exploratory missions, and the rapid launch of new projects in some of the region’s most volatile and high-risk environments.

The recruitment drive reflects ALIMA’s continued commitment to delivering life-saving medical and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities affected by conflict, epidemics, displacement, and extreme poverty.

Purpose of the East Africa Surge Team

ALIMA is building the East Africa Surge Team to improve operational readiness and ensure the organisation can rapidly respond to emergencies across the region.

The surge roster will consist of highly skilled professionals capable of deploying at short notice to support humanitarian interventions during critical phases.

The team will focus on:

• Rapid emergency deployments
• Exploratory missions in new operational areas
• Launching and scaling humanitarian projects
• Supporting emergency preparedness and response planning
• Reinforcing existing country missions during high-pressure situations

Deployments are expected to last between one and three months depending on operational needs and the context of the intervention.

ALIMA is recruiting professionals across several humanitarian leadership and coordination functions, including:

• Emergency Coordinators
• Medical Coordinators
• Finance Coordinators
• Human Resources Coordinators
• Logistics Coordinators

The organisation is looking for candidates who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on operational support in emergency settings.

Required Experience and Qualifications

To qualify for the roster, applicants should have prior experience working with international NGOs in humanitarian or emergency response environments.

Key requirements include:

• At least two years of experience in a similar humanitarian role
• Previous work experience in high-risk security contexts
• Strong project management and operational coordination skills
• Experience managing multicultural teams
• Medical or paramedical qualifications for medical roles
• HR, finance, or logistics qualifications for support functions
• Ability to work independently and under pressure

Candidates should also demonstrate excellent communication, analytical thinking, flexibility, leadership ability, and strong problem-solving skills.

ALIMA additionally requires proficiency in both English and French, while knowledge of additional languages is considered an advantage.
