About the Communications Specialist Role
Reporting to the Communications Lead, the Communications Specialist will oversee AEF’s editorial content from concept to publication. The role involves researching, writing, editing, and coordinating high-quality communications that increase the visibility of agroecology movements and strengthen engagement with donors, partners, policymakers, and the public.
The specialist will collaborate with programme teams, regional partners, translators, freelance writers, and editors to produce impactful communications across multiple platforms and languages.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Content Development and Storytelling
The Communications Specialist will lead AEF’s editorial planning and storytelling efforts by:
- Developing and managing the annual editorial calendar.
- Identifying compelling stories from grantees and grassroots partners.
- Conducting interviews with stakeholders and programme participants.
- Working with external writers and editors on feature articles and reports.
- Adapting messaging for donors, policymakers, media, and community audiences.
The role will ensure a continuous pipeline of engaging stories that reflect AEF’s mission and global priorities.
Producing High-Quality Communications Materials
The successful candidate will research, write, and edit a wide variety of publications, including:
- Annual reports.
- Feature stories.
- Blogs and website content.
- Newsletters.
- Policy briefs.
- Press releases.
- Op-eds.

- Knowledge products.
- Event materials and presentations.
The specialist will also simplify technical reports into accessible content for broader audiences.
Editorial Quality Assurance

Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:

- Five to seven years of professional experience in writing, editing, journalism, publishing, or communications.
- Experience producing annual reports and technical publications.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience translating complex information into engaging content.
- Knowledge of climate change, food systems, agroecology, or international development.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional qualifications include:
- Experience working with NGOs, international organizations, or philanthropic foundations.
