About the Agriculture and Food Systems Lead Role

The Agriculture and Food Systems Lead will provide strategic leadership and programme management support for initiatives designed to transform agriculture and food systems.

The successful candidate will manage complex projects, strengthen partnerships, support strategy development, and ensure programmes deliver meaningful climate and sustainability outcomes.

This role requires someone who can connect technical knowledge with practical implementation while engaging diverse stakeholders across government, business, finance, and civil society sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Programme and Project Management

The Agriculture and Food Systems Lead will:

  • Lead projects focused on regenerative agriculture, fertilizer systems, bioinputs, and agricultural methane reduction.
  • Manage project planning, implementation, budgets, reporting, risks, and monitoring activities.
  • Ensure successful coordination among internal teams and external partners.
  • Apply adaptive management approaches to respond to changing circumstances.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

The role will involve building strong relationships with:

  • Government institutions.
  • NGOs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in agriculture, environmental studies, international development, business, international relations, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in senior programme or project management roles.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder and multi-funder initiatives.
  • Experience working with governments, NGOs, companies, financial institutions, or international organizations.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability transitions and climate-related challenges.
  • Ability to analyze technical, scientific, political, and financial information.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong networks and knowledge of East African contexts.
  • Ability to work effectively in remote and multicultural environments.
