Funding Africa Is Hiring a Business Operations & Systems Consultant – Remote Opportunity|Apply by 03 Sept 2026

Experienced operations and systems professionals have an exciting opportunity to support a growing African-led advisory organisation through a remote Business Operations & Systems Consultant position with Funding Africa. The consultancy is designed for a professional who can strengthen internal systems, improve financial and operational processes, and help a growing organisation work more efficiently.

The position is particularly suitable for candidates with experience in business operations, financial operations, consulting, systems implementation, process improvement, or startup operations. Experience working with organisations in East Africa or similar markets is preferred.

Business Operations & Systems Consultant Opportunity

Funding Africa is seeking a hands-on consultant who can assess its current operational infrastructure and introduce practical improvements. The successful candidate will work closely with the Founder and Managing Director to strengthen the systems supporting finances, projects, contractors, payments, documentation, and recurring administrative activities.

The role is fully remote and is expected to require approximately 8–12 hours per week initially. The initial engagement will last around 2–3 months, beginning in September 2026, with the possibility of continued advisory work.

The application deadline is September 3, 2026, at 5:00 PM EAT.

About Funding Africa

Funding Africa is a boutique advisory and learning platform supporting African-led nonprofits, intermediaries, and social impact organisations.

Its work focuses on areas including fundraising strategy, strategic communications, organisational positioning, advisory support, and capacity building. The organisation is also developing the Funding Africa Academy, an online learning platform focused on practical fundraising and organisational development.

As the organisation expands its client base, products, and consultant network, it wants to strengthen its internal systems without creating unnecessary administrative layers.

The successful consultant will therefore play an important role in helping the organisation build an operational foundation that can support sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

The Business Operations & Systems Consultant will begin by reviewing existing processes and identifying gaps, duplication, manual work, and areas where excessive Founder involvement can be reduced.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and improving business operations and workflows.
  • Strengthening client onboarding and project setup.
  • Improving contracts, invoicing, and payment follow-up.
  • Developing contractor onboarding and payment systems.
  • Creating effective project and deliverables tracking systems.
  • Developing standard operating procedures and operational documentation.
  • Clarifying responsibilities, approvals, and ownership.
  • Recommending practical tools for managing operations.
  • Improving the way existing systems work together.

The consultant will also support financial operations by strengthening revenue and invoice tracking, expense management, contractor and supplier payments, cash-flow monitoring, operational budgets, project costing, and financial reporting.

An important deliverable will be a straightforward management dashboard that gives the organisation visibility into revenue, expenditure, outstanding invoices, project costs, cash position, and other information needed for business decisions.

Process Improvement and Automation

Automation will also form an important part of the assignment. The consultant will identify repetitive activities that could be simplified, delegated, or automated.

Potential areas include invoice workflows, expense recording, onboarding, project setup, recurring reporting, meeting follow-ups, CRM administration, document generation, and information transfers between systems.

The focus will be on useful and sustainable automation, rather than introducing technology simply for the sake of it.

Candidates familiar with platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks, Notion, Airtable, ClickUp, CRM systems, Zapier, Make, and Google Workspace may find their experience particularly useful.

Expected Deliverables

During the initial engagement, Funding Africa expects the consultant to produce several practical outcomes.

These include an operational assessment identifying important gaps and priorities, improved core operational systems, a financial management and reporting system, and a management dashboard.

The consultant will also be expected to improve workflows for client onboarding, projects, invoicing, payments, and contractor management.

Other deliverables include documented SOPs and templates, selected automation solutions, and clearer ownership of recurring responsibilities between the Founder, team, accountant, legal advisers, and other providers.

Who Can Apply?

Funding Africa is looking for an experienced professional with at least five years of relevant experience in areas such as business operations, financial operations, systems implementation, consulting operations, startup operations, or related fields.

Applicants should ideally demonstrate experience in:

  • Building or improving systems for small or growing organisations.
  • Budgeting and cash-flow management.
  • Project costing and financial reporting.
  • Workflow and process design.
  • Developing SOPs and dashboards.
  • Automation and systems integration.
  • Documentation and project management.
  • Independent problem-solving and implementation.

Experience with consultancies, professional services firms, agencies, learning businesses, or founder-led organisations will be an advantage.

Contract and Compensation

This is a fractional, project-based consultancy requiring approximately 8–12 hours per week initially. The engagement is expected to begin in September 2026 and continue for approximately 2–3 months, with potential for ongoing advisory support.

Compensation will be determined according to the consultant’s experience and agreed scope of work.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their application by September 3, 2026, at 5:00 PM EAT.

Applicants will need to provide a CV, LinkedIn profile, and examples of previous work where they personally improved operational systems. Candidates may also provide anonymised examples of dashboards, workflows, SOPs, automations, or financial management systems they have developed.
