Urgent Action Fund-Africa is a pan-African feminist and women’s human rights fund registered in Kenya and Zimbabwe. About the Position

The Feminist Knowledge Leadership Assistant will support the implementation of UAF-Africa’s Knowledge Leadership Strategy by coordinating research, learning, documentation, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Feminist Knowledge Leadership Coordinator to ensure effective knowledge generation, documentation, and dissemination across the organization’s programs and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

The role combines research, coordination, documentation, and learning functions within a dynamic feminist movement-building environment.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating feminist research and knowledge production processes
  • Supporting learning and documentation initiatives
  • Assisting with monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities
  • Managing partnership workflows within the Feminist Republik Registry
  • Supporting feminist convenings and learning events
  • Contributing to organizational learning and knowledge-sharing systems

Feminist Research and Knowledge Production

The position plays a central role in generating and documenting feminist knowledge.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating research projects from planning to completion
  • Supporting the development of research methodologies and terms of reference
  • Conducting literature reviews and desk research
  • Mapping stakeholders and feminist movements
  • Producing learning briefs and thematic analyses
  • Supporting quality assurance of publications and research outputs

Candidates should possess strong analytical skills and an interest in feminist methodologies and social justice research.

Supporting Feminist Republik Learning Processes

The successful candidate will help coordinate documentation and learning activities related to the Feminist Republik Festival and other movement-building initiatives.

Key duties include:

  • Facilitating interviews and focus group discussions
  • Supporting reflective learning dialogues
  • Preparing synthesis reports and learning briefs
  • Developing impact stories and narrative reports
  • Documenting lessons learned and emerging trends
  • Ensuring ethical and feminist approaches to documentation

The role requires sensitivity to issues of care, consent, dignity, and narrative justice.

Registry Partnership Coordination

A significant aspect of the position involves supporting partnerships within the Feminist Republik Registry.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating communication with partner organizations
  • Tracking Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)
  • Monitoring partnership deliverables
  • Managing partner engagement records
  • Reviewing and quality-checking submitted datasets
  • Supporting advisory committee coordination

Strong organizational and relationship-management skills are essential for success in this area.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)

The position also supports UAF-Africa’s learning and reporting systems.

MEAL-related duties include:

  • Supporting data collection and compilation
  • Entering and managing programme data
  • Assisting with grant reporting processes
  • Conducting basic data analysis
  • Supporting organizational learning initiatives
  • Maintaining data management systems and records

Applicants with experience using reporting platforms and database systems will be particularly competitive.

Supporting Festivals and Convenings

The Feminist Knowledge Leadership Assistant will contribute to the planning and delivery of feminist events and gatherings.

Tasks include:

  • Coordinating event logistics
  • Supporting agenda development
  • Managing communication with facilitators and participants
  • Assisting with consultant coordination
  • Documenting discussions and outcomes
  • Preparing post-event learning reports

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Women’s Studies, Social Sciences, Political Science, International Development, Law, Communications, Research, or a related field

Candidates must also have:

  • At least three years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience in feminist research, programme coordination, MEAL, or documentation and learning
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong communication abilities
  • Experience working within NGOs, civil society organizations, or social justice movements
