Experienced digital communications, advocacy and fundraising professionals can apply for the Digital Advocacy Manager position at Earthjustice. The role offers an opportunity to lead multi-channel digital advocacy campaigns focused on environmental protection, climate action, clean energy, healthy communities, lands, oceans and wildlife.

The position is available as a remote or hybrid opportunity within the United States, with eligible candidates able to work remotely from within the U.S. The full-time position requires 37.5 hours per week and offers a competitive annual salary of up to $125,500, depending on the employee’s work location and experience.

About the Digital Advocacy Manager Role

The Digital Advocacy Manager will join the Communications department and report to the Associate Director of Digital Advocacy. The successful candidate will oversee the digital advocacy programme and develop campaigns designed to encourage meaningful supporter action and increase engagement.

The role involves working across multiple digital channels, including email, mobile, paid media, social media and websites. It is highly collaborative and requires close coordination with communications, legal, lobbying and other programme teams.

The successful candidate will help translate complex environmental and policy issues into accessible digital communications that encourage audiences to take action.

Key Responsibilities

A significant part of the role involves developing and implementing integrated digital advocacy campaigns. The Digital Advocacy Manager will lead campaigns across email, websites, SMS, social media and paid advertising while ensuring consistent messaging across different platforms.

The position will also involve audience segmentation and platform testing to improve engagement and campaign performance. The successful candidate will manage the building, coding, testing and delivery of digital messages and online comments directed toward political targets.

Another important responsibility is responding quickly to changing political, legal and news developments. The Digital Advocacy Manager must be able to adjust strategies and messaging when rapid-response opportunities arise.

The role also focuses on audience growth and retention. This includes developing strategies to grow email lists through paid and unpaid campaigns, cross-promotions, sponsored petitions and advertising.

The manager will also work on growing and engaging SMS audiences while identifying ways to improve digital content and communication strategies.

Data, Testing and Analytics

Data will play an important role in the Digital Advocacy Manager’s work. The successful candidate will develop key performance indicators and maintain digital advocacy dashboards.

They will use analytics to establish goals, monitor campaign performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Regular reporting will be required, with the manager expected to turn data into clear recommendations that can guide future advocacy campaigns.

This makes the position particularly suitable for professionals who combine digital communications skills with data analysis and strategic thinking.

Management and Leadership

The Digital Advocacy Manager is a supervisory position and will directly manage a Digital Advocacy Specialist.

Responsibilities include conducting performance reviews, providing feedback, holding regular check-ins and mentoring the specialist on digital strategies and advocacy platforms.

The successful candidate will also help educate other staff about digital advocacy by developing best-practice guidelines and providing training. Strong leadership, emotional intelligence and cultural competence are therefore important requirements.

Skills and Experience Required

The successful candidate should be able to translate complicated issues into compelling and accessible communications. They should also be capable of managing multiple deadlines, responding quickly to new developments and collaborating effectively across teams.

Experience working with 501(c)(4) organisations is considered an advantage.
